Lappers Move Camp Closer to Construction
Wayland Spring Methodist Camp exists to develop ministries that share the love of Jesus Christ within the church and to assist in spreading the gospel to our district, conference and community at large.  A critical issue of housing at the camp must be addressed in order for this mission to be fulfilled.  In 2005, a capital improvement fund dedicated to meeting these needs was started.  Our vision is this.  In the Bible it says that God chose 300 lappers from among the many in Gideon’s army.  These 300 were then used to start what became a great victory for all of God’s people.  The camp is striving for 300 Lappers who pledge $3600 over a three or four year period.  As you can see from the list below, Lappers may be individuals, groups within the church, or church bodies that commit to this effort.  The past year has brought a significant increase in Lapper pledges.  We are hopeful as this response continues and we are earnestly praying that adequate facilities to meet the needs of our children, youth, and churches will be soon available (please see the article below).

Northeast District Youth’s Vision for Camp
Story by Kaye Gann and Kathy Finch,
(Co-Coordinators of the Northeast District Council on Youth)
(NEDCYM)
Wayland Spring Camp is where we spend time together, believe in the dreams of the strangers coming to camp for their first time, forgive mistakes, comfort hurts, celebrate joys, remember each other forever! Lives are changed by time spent at Wayland Spring, filled with Christian Fellowship and much laughter mixed ever so carefully with prayer and speaking from the heart around a bonfire late at night. These are the ways that kids make a difference in our everyday world. We never want to turn away a youth from our Fall or Spring Rally, but we have more kids and adults than we have beds. Our young people have to sleep on the concrete floor in the main building and our adults are found catching a few winks in the front seats of their vehicles. Our youth and leaders deserve better from us. Enduring friendships happen at church camp; commitments are made through prayer, paths cross with others and heart-strings entwine. If God intends for all of this to occur, can’t we get it together and provide proper accommodations for our young people, in every section of our state? They are depending on us! We will touch some lives for only a moment while others we will walk with as long as there is breath in our bodies; but ALL of those who enter Wayland Spring Camp deserve the best we can offer. We NEED that new lodge! Jesus asks of us “You shall love the Lord with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength”—-correct us if we are wrong—-But ALL is everything—-right?
