The winter months are the time when most of the maintenance and improvement projects are underway at the camp. This past year was no exception. The first project was the removal of old tile and the complete retiling of the floors of the kitchen and dining hall. Eddie Harris headed up this project using tile purchased with donations from many individuals and groups around the Northeast District. We are grateful for all the monetary contributions to that effort and especially to Eddie and his workers for being able to finish before the scheduled spring activities. Other projects include installation of a new range and hot water heater in the kitchen, renovation of the sinks and plumbing in the kitchen, and the installation of new storm doors for the kitchen and dining hall.
A very special thanks goes to Paul Frost, Jonesboro-FUMC, for constructing new benches for the outdoor chapel. Paul was able to complete the benches in modules at his home and then he was helped in putting them together at the camp.
Using window dimensions from the cabins, Mary Shaver Jonesboro-FUMC collected curtain materials over the winter. She and Nancy Haynes, Jonesboro-FUMC, then made curtains for all the cabins. Keith Romines, Jonesboro-FUMC, was able to secure new rods for all the windows and they, along with others, spent a day installing the new rods and curtains. The camp purchased new mattresses for the bunks in the cabins and a couple of work days were held to paint and renovate the bunk beds.
Continuation of some of these projects and new projects are already planned for the off season. With the acquisition of new property has come the need to redo and build new fences. If you have fencing material (metal posts or barbed wire) to donate or would like to make a contribution especially to this project, please contact Phyllis Roark at the following email address: phylroark@centurylink.net.
If you or your group would be willing to help with a work day at the camp, please send your contact information to Fred Steinegger at steinegger@sbcglobal.net or 870.932.8123.
